We found Bayeux to be a perfect base for our stay in Normandy. It is a gorgeous part of France and close to the DDay beaches and sites as well as the lovely coastal town of Honfleur. There are also a lot of great options for places to stay in Bayeux. If also have a post about the Bayeux restaurants if you want to learn more about the area.

The cathedral in Bayeux France lit up against the darkening sky. There is so much to do and some great places to stay in Bayeux France.

Where to Stay in Bayeux France

On this list you will find some of the best hotels in Bayeux France, but I have included some other types of lodging in Bayeux as well.

Hotel Particulier Poppa

Hotel Particulier Poppa was definitely a winner in our book! Particulier is a way of saying private or personal and a hotel particulier is basically a private inn or hotel usually located in a eminent home or town home.

Particulier Poppa manages to be both grand and welcoming. It is a lovely home built by a noble in the 18th century. The location is perfect and quiet, it is just outside the city walls on a quiet street across from an historic park and within walking distance to everything in Bayeux. Free on street parking is available all around the block although we were invited to park in a small courtyard next to the house.

The rooms are spacious, particularly Room 1 which earlier in its history was the ballroom of the house. They all have tall windows and private bathrooms. Room 1 has a pretty fireplace and a large and dramatic black and white bathroom.

The home’s owners and hosts Philippe and Sophie are very, very good at what they do. They are helpful and available when you need them, but also know when to be unobtrusive. They have great advice for places to see and where to eat and a loving knowledge of Bayeux and Normandy in general.

Great place to stay in Bayeux and I highly recommend it!

Hotel Villa Lara

If you want to splurge on lodging in Bayeux then the Hotel Villa Lara is the place to do that. It is a luxury hotel located just near the Cathedral and is a stunning property! When I say luxury, I mean luxury. The Villa Lara is a five star hotel and is pricy, but also absolutely gorgeous. We stopped by to check it out and found it to be very elegant without being stuffy. The Villa Lara holds the common areas and 28 sumptuous rooms. Many of the rooms have views of the Bayeux Cathedral which is beautifully lit up at night.

They have recently added the Villa Augustine just next door which has four newly remodeled presidential suites.

Hotel d’Argouges

The Hotel d’Argouges was one that we very seriously considered when planning our trip! After our arrival we asked if we could take a look at it and they graciously obliged. The kind and helpful staff even showed us some of the rooms that weren’t occupied. It is very nice property with a pretty garden. It is located right in the heart of Bayeux near the cathedral and all the sights and restaurants.

Some of the rooms are small, but they are exceptionally clean and the bathrooms are modern. They even have family rooms if you are traveling with children.

Hotel Reine Mathilde

The Hotel Reine Mathilde is a great value for this area and is very nice for the reasonable price. It is fully air-conditioned which not all the hotels and B&B’s in the area are. There are rooms in the main part of the hotel as well as some in an annex across the street on the little river in town. This Bayeux hotel has a pleasant casual restaurant attached. You can read more about that in this post. The restaurant has a lovely terrace which would be a nice place to have a drink if you were staying at the hotel. The location of the Reine Mathilde is excellent, right in the middle of town.

Hotel Tardiff Noble Guesthouse

The Hotel Tardiff Noble Guesthouse is a stunning property located in an 18th century building. It is located in a garden which was once owned by a botanist. I would say that this “garden” is really more like a park and it is lovely! There are 5 large and well appointed rooms in the main guesthouse. They have 8 tourist apartments with kitchens on offer. The heated swimming pool is an extra bonus. The Hotel Tardiff Noble Guesthouse is a charming and special place.

Clos De Bellefontaine

This is a personal and charming Bayeux bed and breakfast located just a short walk from the city center. If you prefer to be a bit farther away from the action in town then this is the place for you. Clos De Bellefontaine has three spacious and beautifully decorated guest rooms all with a private bath. The rooms are bright and airy. They are done in whites and light colors which feels much less heavy than much of the decor that you will find in hotels and B&Bs in France. It has a lovely patio and yard for the guests to use.

La Ferme De La Gronde

If you want to stay a little farther outside of town then I highly recommend La Ferme De La Gronde. Although it is only 10 minutes by car from the center of Bayeux it is in the middle of some gorgeous farmland. You will enjoy having your morning coffee in the garden while looking out at the fields. The prices here are very reasonable and it is a great place for families as they have games and a little playground for children. There are rooms of various sizes and some are set up for families with younger children.
