Relaxing on Caye Caulker: Review of Colinda Cabanas

On a recent visit to Caye Caulker, a tiny island off the coast of Belize, my husband and I stayed at Colinda Cabanas. I had done my research and had discovered that this place was very highly ranked on all the travel websites…but as you know…that doesn’t always mean anything!

It is always best to get a personal reference, so…I won’t keep you wondering…we loved our stay here and highly recommend it! The top-rated rankings are for good reason!

Here is our review of Colinda Cabanas and all the reasons we found it to be a great place to stay.

There were so many reasons to love Colinda Cabanas and here are a few of them!

Location of Colinda Cabanas

One of the things that we really enjoyed about Colinda Cabanas was the location. It is right on the ocean on the quiet southern end of the island.

We found it to be the perfect balance between seclusion and accessibility.

A short bike ride will take you to the island’s vibrant center, where you can explore local shops, restaurants, and bars but when you are at the property you will only hear the breeze in the trees.

If you are wanting to be in the party area of town…then, this might not be the place for you.

However, we were looking for peace and quiet and relaxation and we found the location to be perfection!

The Accommodations

There are 14 suites and cabins on the property which are a delightful mix of rustic charm and modern comfort.

They are all nestled beautifully on the property in the shade of the palm trees with enough space between them for a bit of privacy.

Each unit is features bright, tropical colors that enhance the island vibe.

I loved the bright blue and yellow paint on the exterior! The rooms are immaculately clean, well-ventilated, and equipped with all the essentials for a comfortable stay.

Starting on the oceanfront there are 4 beachfront suites with direct ocean views. These are in two buildings with an upper and lower suite.

Behind those are the ocean view rooms. This is where we stayed! We were on the upper level and could see the ocean from our balcony with the view partially blocked by the cabanas in front of us.

This photo shows the view from the little table where we would have our morning coffee!

All of the rooms mentioned above have a full kitchen as well as a bathroom and bedroom. It is important to be aware that the beachfront and ocean view suites have air-conditioning in the bedroom ONLY.

Further back on the property sit the garden rooms. These do not have kitchens or ocean views but they do have air-conditioning.

The Caribbean Cabanas are also very charming but be aware that these do not have air-conditioning. They do, however, have ceiling fans and screened windows.

Our room was so pleasant, clean, and comfortable. It was very hot during our visit so I really appreciated the a/c in the bedroom!

We were also provided a big jug of filtered water which was SO nice to have as we were told not to drink the regular tap water on Caye Caulker.

The kitchen also had a coffee maker, a nice refrigerator which was perfect for keeping some cold drinks and was well stocked with plates, cups, utensils, and cookware.

The balconies, including ours, all had hammocks, and we also had a little table with two chairs.

Sitting outside with our coffee watching the sunrise was a gorgeous way to start the day.

Amenities

Bikes

Colinda Cabanas provides bikes for their guests which was a great perk! We loved riding our bikes everywhere on this car-free island.

Kayaks and Snorkling Gear

The cabanas are just steps away from the pristine Caribbean Sea, offering breathtaking sunrise views and easy access to water activities.

Complimentary use of Colinda Cabana’s kayaks make it easy to explore the island by paddling through the calm waters.

Dock with Palapa

The property also features a private dock that stretches out into the ocean beyond the ocean grasses that rim the edge of Caye Caulker. From here you can kayak, swim, snorkel, or simply relax in the sun.

There are hammocks strung under cover of the palapa where we spent a wonderful afternoon reading and relaxing.

The photo is taken on a long dock looking back to the land instead of out to shore. There are side decks off of the dock with tables and chairs for relaxing. In the distance you see the yellow and blue buildings of Colinda Cabanas. Pin

BBQ Area

There is an area for grilling if you are planning to cook some of your own food.

The Grounds

The grounds were one of my very favorite things about Colinda Cabanas! Everything is so lush and shaded and well-maintained. It is just gorgeous. There are also plenty of seating areas which are perfect for a relaxing evening.

Service

We found the hospitality at Colinda Cabanas to be second to none. The hosts and staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive.

They also gave us excellent recommendations for local attractions, dining, and excursions. You can tell that they truly want you to experience the best of Caye Caulker.

Experience

Staying at Colinda Cabanas was a blissful experience that captured the essence of “Go Slow.”

It is the perfect place for a tropical escape where time slows down and the only decision you need to make is which chair to lounge in!

At Colinda Cabanas you can immerse yourself in the tranquil side of Caye Caulker. We absolutely loved it and highly recommend a stay here.
